We’re back with another Behind the Leash feature, where we shine a light on the amazing humans that make up our Off Leash Team! This month, we’re thrilled to introduce Emily, one of our newer team members who joined Off Leash MKE in August 2025. With a background in dog daycare management, Emily brings a wealth of hands-on experience, a calm and patient approach to each pet’s unique quirks, and a genuine passion for helping animals feel confident and cared for. Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how long you've been a part of our team?
A: Hi! I’m Emily, and I’ve been part of the Off Leash MKE team since September 2025. I’ve always loved caring for animals. My first dog Onyx is the main reason why I’m so passionate about animals and pet care. I worked at a doggy daycare for about 2 years, starting as a dog handler and working my way up to manager. I learned a handful of skills during that time, for example interpreting dog behaviors, having patience for their special quirks, and most importantly showing appreciation and care not just to the dogs but to our clients.
Q: Share a memorable or heartwarming moment you've had with a client's pet.
A: One of my favorite memories is walking a dog who used to be a bit wary of car rides, especially getting in and out of the car. I worked on helping her build her confidence and over time she started getting more comfortable with the whole process. Helping her get more confident each time and seeing her progress is a very rewarding part of the work I do.
Q: Besides working with animals, what are your hobbies or interests?
A: Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors, hiking, listening to music, and exploring new trails. I also enjoy taking pictures and capturing little moments with my family, friends, and, of course, pets!
Q: Do you have any pets of your own? If so, tell us about them.
A: Unfortunately my dog Onyx passed away in April ‘25 - he was my very first dog! I honestly believe he taught me the most valuable lessons - he taught me responsibility, patience, and how to truly love and take care of a companion. He enjoyed being in the sun and, most of all, he enjoyed being outside among the trees!
Q: Are there any favorite dog parks or pet-friendly spots you recommend in our area?
A: I love Riverside Park! It’s a great place for dogs to stretch their legs, it has shaded paths for hot days, and plenty of space to explore - plus, it takes you all along the Milwaukee River.
Q: What's your go-to tip for clients looking to provide the best care for their pet?
A: Consistency is key! Keeping a routine for walks, meals, and playtime can help pets feel secure and happy. And of course, giving them lots of love and being patient can go a long way too!
Q: How would you describe the teamwork and camaraderie among our pet care team?
A: Our team is so supportive and communicative. Everyone truly cares about the animals and each other. It feels like a family where everyone pitches in to make sure pets get the best care possible.
Q: What do you appreciate most about working with our company?
A: I really appreciate the positive, pet-first culture. It’s inspiring to work with people who are passionate about animals and who value trust, kindness, and professionalism in everything we do. It’s an honor to be with Off Leash MKE.
