More Than Pet Care: Why Relationships Are the Cornerstone of Everything We Do

"The greatest privilege isn't caring for someone's pet. It's earning the trust to become part of their story."

Lori Riegler - Off Leash MKE

Every day, people trust us with what matters most to them.

They hand us the keys to their home. They introduce us to the dog who sleeps at the foot of their bed every night. They tell us about the cat who has been by their side through life's biggest milestones. They share routines, quirks, fears, medications, favorite toys, and the little details that make their pet who they are.

That trust is never something we take for granted.

In fact, it is the very foundation of everything we do.

At Off Leash MKE, we believe exceptional pet care begins and ends with relationships. Not because relationships make us different, but because they make everything else possible.

We Are Not Just Caring for Pets

When someone joins the Off Leash MKE family, our responsibility extends far beyond walking a dog or feeding a cat.

We become an extension of the family.

Our job is to step into a pet parent's shoes when they cannot be there. We ask ourselves the same questions they would ask.

Is it too hot to be outside for long?

Do they seem quieter than usual today?

Would they rather spend a few extra minutes sniffing or simply sit together in the shade?

Are they moving comfortably?

Are they happy?

Every decision we make is guided by one simple thought.

If this were our own pet, what would we want?

That mindset shapes every visit, every adventure, and every interaction.

Relationships Are Built, Never Assumed

Trust cannot be rushed.

Dogs do not trust because someone carries a leash.

Cats do not trust because someone fills a food bowl.

Relationships are built through consistency, patience, kindness, and showing up day after day with intention.

Over time, shared experiences become familiar routines. A nervous dog begins greeting their handler with excitement. A shy cat comes out from hiding to say hello. A reactive dog discovers that this person is safe, predictable, and understands them.

Those moments are never accidental.

They are earned.

Every relationship we build opens the door to new experiences, greater confidence, and a richer life.

Every Pet Has a Story

One of the first things we learn about a new pet has nothing to do with where the leash is kept or how much food goes in the bowl.

We want to know who they are.

What makes them light up?

What makes them nervous?

Do they stop to smell every flower on the trail? Do they prefer quiet mornings or energetic adventures? Are they goofy, thoughtful, cautious, social, independent, or somewhere in between?

Just like people, every dog and every cat has their own personality, preferences, and life experiences.

Building a relationship starts by understanding the individual in front of us.

Because no two pets deserve exactly the same care.

Adventure Was Never About Exercise

Adventure Club was born from a simple realization.

Many of our clients were physicians completing their residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. They were working incredibly long hours, carrying enormous responsibility, and often beginning the next chapter of their lives by getting married, buying homes, or starting families.

They loved their dogs deeply.

They simply did not have enough hours in the day.

A quick walk around the block solved one problem.

It did not solve the bigger one.

Their dogs needed opportunities to explore, build confidence, form meaningful relationships, and experience the kind of physical and mental enrichment that creates a truly fulfilling life.

Their people needed to know that while they were caring for patients, someone was caring for the family member waiting at home.

Adventure Club was created because we believe dogs deserve more than getting by.

They deserve to thrive.

We Never Want Someone to Feel They Cannot Have a Dog Because of Their Career

Some of our clients spend their days saving lives.

Others are raising families, building businesses, traveling for work, caring for aging parents, or navigating life's unexpected challenges.

Life does not stop because you have a pet.

Babies arrive earlier than expected.

Family weddings bring everyone together.

Dream vacations finally become possible after years of hard work.

Medical emergencies happen.

Retirement opens the door to adventures you have waited decades to experience.

Our role is to make sure your pets continue living an incredible life through every one of those moments.

That peace of mind gives people room to breathe.

It allows them to focus on the things that need them most, knowing their pet is not simply being cared for. They are happy, fulfilled, safe, and loved.

When they walk through the front door at the end of the day, they are not greeted with guilt.

They are greeted by a dog who has already had an amazing day and is ready to simply enjoy being home with the person they love most.

Relationships Change Lives

Over the years, we have helped families care for senior dogs living in downtown high-rise apartments when their owners could no longer safely navigate elevators and city sidewalks.

We have cared for pets while clients welcomed new babies into the world.

We have made it possible for families to travel internationally after years of believing it would never happen because their pet required specialized care.

We have helped build trusting relationships with dogs who struggled to feel safe with anyone outside their immediate family.

Those moments are about far more than pet care.

They are about preserving the relationship between people and the animals they love.

"We believe the best relationships are built over years, not visits. That's why we invest in the people who earn your trust and become part of your pet's story."

Our Team Makes This Possible

Relationships like these cannot exist without consistency.

That is why we invest so heavily in our team.

We believe pet care is a profession deserving of education, mentorship, support, and a workplace where people can build meaningful careers.

When our team feels valued, they stay.

When they stay, relationships grow.

Dogs continue seeing the people they trust.

Families continue welcoming familiar faces into their homes.

That consistency creates a level of care that simply cannot be achieved by a revolving door of caregivers.

What Dogs Have Taught Us

After years of caring for hundreds of pets, perhaps the greatest lesson has not been about dogs at all.

It has been about relationships.

Dogs have taught us to slow down.

To observe before reacting.

To notice the smallest changes.

To understand that trust is earned through consistency, patience, and genuine care.

Those lessons shape every relationship we build, not only with pets, but with our clients and each other.

This Is Why We Exist

We do not believe anyone should have to choose between pursuing a meaningful career and sharing their life with a dog.

We do not believe a busy season of life should mean a pet has to settle for less.

We believe every dog deserves adventure, enrichment, meaningful relationships, and the opportunity to live a joyful, fulfilling life.

We believe every cat deserves thoughtful, compassionate care from someone who understands them as an individual.

Most of all, we believe every family deserves the peace of mind that comes from knowing the ones they love are in trusted hands.

That is why relationships are the cornerstone of everything we do.

Because when trust is built, lives become bigger.

Pets experience more joy.

Families experience more freedom.

And together, we make it possible for people and their pets to enjoy a lifetime of adventures, side by side.
